Women’s History Month

Happy #WomensHistoryMonth!

While the accomplishments of women should be celebrated year-round, March is a great opportunity to acknowledge the women in history who advanced society, as well as the modern-day changemakers who are currently creating history.

To highlight just one unsung hero that made (and continues to make) history here in Colorado, meet Lee McNeil. She was a leader in the effort to take the slavery clause out of the Colorado constitution, placed and passed the #ColoradoFamilyLeaveAct, and was responsible for working with the Denver Police Department in creating a community input process for the Use of Force Policy. Currently, she's the caretaker for her 107-year-old mother (!), Mrs. Easter Butler, whose mother was born enslaved in this country. She is also Chair of the Board for Together Colorado: A faith and political action organization, as well as a prominent leader in the Shorter Community AME Church (Denver) Social Justice Ministry and Steward Board.

Lee is an unsung and often quiet hero who leads from both the front and from behind. She is a #Colorado treasure who has dedicated her life to justice and empowering others to do the same. Lee McNeil…we salute you!
